Highlights of 2010

December 23, 2010

2010 has been quite a year for Splish Splosh Swimming School, not only have we experienced fantastic growth but we have invested in new projects that have resulted in some pretty fabulous outcomes.

Firstly we knew that we needed to improve our presence online, so we set about creating a website that provided a unique online experience, tailored to the needs of our customers. It may have taken a while to establish it, but we all feel that the wait was well worth it and we are thrilled with the new site.

Continuing a web-based theme we were keen to tip our toes into the exciting world of social media, so we enlisted the help of Cookie PR to help guide us through the process of developing a presence online. Our MD, Vicky Pettitt has taken to Facebook and Twitter wholeheartedly, recently earning Splish Splosh the title of Retweeter of the Year by British Swimming!

It was through our Twitter efforts that we met the Commonwealth champion, Kate Haywood. Back in November we began with swim clinics at our sites at DW Sports Fitness, and are thrilled to say that she is now the Ambassador for Splish Splosh Swimming School and now in Australia reporting back through video blogs exclusively for Splish Splosh with more exciting clinics planned when she returns to the UK.

As mentioned we have located ourselves in DW Sports Fitness after we managed to secure a business deal with the premier health and fitness centres to provide swimming lessons at their rather lovely pools. As we endeavour to provide lessons at only the best facilities we are pleased to say that our students at the numerous locations, including Cambridge and Telford are doing extremely well. Who can forget Vicky’s feature piece in the Oldham Evening Chronicle when we moved to Trafford’s DW Sports Fitness?

What with precious moments caught with parents and their babies in underwater swimming sessions, the introduction of Mr Splosh and Mrs Splish and an exciting venture proposed for next year, 2010 has been pretty hectic!

To find out the latest please feel free to follow us on either Facebook, Twitter or here on WordPress, but don’t forget to tune into Kate’s video blog as she trains in Australia (get your questions over to us for Kate to answer in her next post by emailing:

From all of us her in a rather cold and frosty York, have a very Merry Christmas and thank you for all your support and swimming achievements – well done!

Kate Haywood’s first blog from Australia!

December 23, 2010

I hope you enjoyed reading my first blog and learning about me and what I do.

I am now bringing you my second blog all the way from Australia. I am now based in Melbourne where I will be training all the way through to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

I only arrived last Monday. After a long 24 hours of travelling we finally made it to the other side of the world! When we landed it was about 25degrees outside, which I think was about 30degrees warmer than back home.

We are staying with another swimmer and her family. Ellen Gandy is also a British swimmer but trains over here. Elly has been a team member since 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, she swims the 100m and 200m Butterfly. Elly was also part of our bronze medal relay team this year at the Commonwealth games.

I have settled into training now. It’s strange being the new person in a group after being the longest member in my old squad for 8 years! The training is a bit different to what I am use to back in the UK. I am doing lots of new things, which is challenging and interesting.

I am training at the VIS here in Melbourne which is where all there elite athletes train from all the different sports.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. It’s going to be very strange for me this year being away from my family and having Christmas in the sunshine. Think I’m going to be missing the UK lots as it really doesn’t feel like Christmas here.

I will hopefully have lots more to tell you in my next blog once I have done more training and seen more of Melbourne.

I hope you enjoy following me and hopefully I might see you at a Splish Splosh event soon. You can also keep up to date with me on my personal website

Hello from Kate Haywood

December 6, 2010

Hi Splish Splosh swimmers!

My name is Kate Haywood, and apart from being a champion swimmer, I have recently agreed to be the face of Splish Splosh Swimming School.

Now, you may have already met me if you are a student in Cambridge or Telford where I hosted a swim clinic with Splish Splosh, but if not, let me start by telling you a little about myself:

I swim professionally and compete internationality. My main events are the 50m and 100m breaststroke, and I am currently British record holder in the 100m. I have competed at one Olympic games, three Commonwealth games, two World Championships long course and two World Championships short course. I have also competed in a number of European events and other international events.

I am really pleased to say that I will be working with Splish Splosh Swimming School as an ambassador over the next couple of years, heading into the 2012 Olympics in London.

It’s a really exciting time for me at the moment: I am heading out to Australia soon to train with some of my competitors. I wanted a change as I have been training in Loughborough since I was 15. I’m going to be training with some of the international Australian swimmers, Olympic, Commonwealth and World champions. I am really looking forward to it; I think it will improve my swimming for 2012. I can’t wait to get out of the snow and into the sunshine too!!!

You can keep up with my progress via the written and video blogs that I will be sending over once a month. I will let you know how my training is going and also be answering you questions! You will also be seeing me next year as I will be popping over to some of the Splish Splosh venues to give some more tips and hints on swimming – so watch out for further updates!

I hope you enjoy following me and hopefully I might see you at a Splish Splosh event soon. You can also keep up-to-date with me on my personal website
